My 2008 SMART Passion burned down to the frame about a month ago when commuting home, for no apparent reason. All attempts to get the Dealer or SMART USA to look into the cause failed and I don't want anyone else to have to experience walking away from a car that was engulfed in flames in less than 30 seconds. I was lucky!
I turned it over to my Insurance Company's Total Loss Department. Has anyone else heard of SMART Cars catching on fire?

Yes, that was my 2008 Passion. Thank you for sending the video. I just found this web site. I am very disappointed that SMART Car of Tysons and SMART USA have had no interest into why this fire happened. I suspect an air conditioner electric problem!

OMG!!! I am terrified that this will happen to me because I have had my car in TWICE for electrical problems. I called SMART and got the run around for 3 weeks. Mercedes Benz contacted me the 4th week to "take care" of my problem. They won't give me a rental even though they will keep it for a week to get parts and things like that. I live 2 hrs away from the dealership. I even told SMART I believe the car WILL catch on fire if this problem isn't fixed. I LOVE my little car so much....SMART as a company....I am really considering a divorce from them!

Maryann, the distributor has no say. Your car is in for a fault that will be covered under warranty... you get a rental PAID by smartUSA. no discussion needed!
