i would guess a loose wire or plug behind the speedometer. you're most likely beyond warranty and smart will smack you big time to look at it, time for a flash light and a look-see under the dash. i was blowing fuses playing with my dome light, whic…

smart center milwaukee, aka bergstrom fiat, will still service smarts, they just lost proprietary diagnostic equipment for smarts. i had my 30,000 mile service there a few weeks ago and test drove a fiat 500 convertible while waiting. the smart mech…

yeah, looks like a license plate mount, i put mine on 3+ years ago, had 3 different plates on it so far. my current front plate is for a "world micro car meet" with the plate #42, only 50 plates were issued for this event.

i've had a 2008 for over 3 years, 28,000 miles so far, the servicing isn't that bad if you go to a regular oil change place, i'd go to a smart center every 30,000 miles for coolant and brake fluid changes. in the winter i get 40mpgs, now that it's s…

powerball run

today i made my first "powerball run" since i installed my Scan Gauge II, it was a short trip from Illinois to Indiana and back. i play the lottery on a regular basis and when the powerball (Indiana and other states) gets over $100 million, i play that one too. on the way there, 37 miles, 28F temp with good traffic i got 49.9MPG, avg speed of 51mph, on the way back i hit rush hour traffic and was stuck a bit, avg speed 37mph and got only 47.2MPG, 48.5MPG average for the trip at highway speeds… Continue

8 months after

hi all,

today is my 8 month anniversary of the delivery of my smart. got my first oil change yesterday at 5280 miles (bought the filter a week ago at my smart center, the smart tech was off on saturday)

i love my smart, 8 months later, unlike my wife, the smart is better to me than my wife. even today, i got 9 thumbs ups (that i saw) as i drove my smart (what other car gets thumbs ups?) (my last 2 cars, a MB 190E and a geo metro never got a single thumb!) i loved both… Continue

Hmmm Interesting. I'm no master mechanic, just a backyard mechanic. I've built a few engines (all VW bug engines) so I like to think I have a basic understanding of how an engine works. From what I've seen on these little Mitsubishi engines that are in our smarts they are no different from any other in that they would benefit from added protection. The tolerances of the engine are pretty tight and exact, what we used to call blueprinting back in the day. But that's pretty standard now a days on all auto engines compared to 20 years ago. The product I mentioned Steelsheild doesn't seem to be Teflon based. It smells like silicon, although I have yet to see exactly what it is made of. They seem to keep their formula secret. I already bought an 8oz bottle from them, I will probably add it in the next day or two. I'll let ya know if I can feel any noticeable differences.

Quick question, I was searching the forums and reading on engine additives and came across an old post of yours on slick 50. Did you ever add it to your engine? I use a product called Weapon Shield on my firearms and they make a product for engines as well. http://www.steelshieldtech.com/ , I was thinking about giving it a try but first I always like to do research and hear from others who might of added some kind of engine treatment to their car.

Thanks for the reassurance re: price. I guess t's like buying anything--depends who you ask whether you got a good deal. I think that the folks buying "American" Smarts now aren't so aware of the difference between theirs and the imorted Smarts. I'm happy with mine and I've had my 15 mins. of buyer's chagrin. Now it's just grins! Suzanne

You have helped me in the past...Is there a Auto Parts Store where I can order a bulb (turn signal/brake) for rear? Also have you heard of anyone's fan (heating/air) not coming on for days...then magically working fine??
