My smart left me stranded with a gallon of milk in my hand this morning, so off it goes on a flat bed to the dealership. Benz/smart service was able to diagnosis it as a bad Shifter Module, which makes the smart think it's still in Drive and keeps the car from starting. This seems to be a problem with others as some smarts slipped through the ports without being inspected. I liked to hear from anyone with this problem.

When I took the road test, the dog's had to like their new wheels, or it was a toyota (again). both have figured out how to get into the front when I'm not in the car so I have to create a net from the seat belt holders on each seat to prevent them from jumping forward. They curl up quite nicely in the back, and then pop up every so often. Not sure if people are laughing at them or me? I also wasn't aware of the back ordering of the smart - I came in, did the paper work, and then they had to wait two weeks for me to come back into town to pick it up.
We are about to go into the -40oC with this winter storm. Any words of advise?

to prevent "auto-lock" from happening next time, leave the rear window "ajar", it prevents the car from locking. the smart car is very "anal", open it and don't slap it down tight, just push it to near closed position. this prevents the "auto-lock"…

i used to have a geo metro, and would lock a set of keys in the car, carry house and car keys in my wallet, just in case i lost the other set while travelling, smart keys are an arm and a leg to get spares made, and are LARGE (not wallet friendly).…

I locked my keeys in my Smart Car!!!

I left the ignition on to tow my Smart Car a short way on a car dolly. Do not do this with the windows up. The doors automatically lock! It took me two hours to figure out how to get in without damabing the car.
