Believe it or not, front tire wear can be improved by changing the rear springs! I have a car with new rear springs I originally put in for better handling and less body roll in the corners. before the spring change, I had similar wear issues with…

Go over to www.smartcarofamerica.com and research the roof crazing issue. From what I have read, smart has a new replacement roof from a different supplier. Make sure you get the updated roof as a replacement. I live in Southern California and so…

The Continnental brand tires have a bad wear rating. They are soft tires. My rear tires picked up a ton of nails and screws. I switched to Kumho tires. They have more pressure in them and give a stiffer ride but no repairs after 10,000 miles. Will…

Hi Dave. I've had no issues with my tires, I did a swap to "all same size" early part of September 2009 ahead of the outSmart the Dragon event. The car handles much better now with all 15" front now the same as the back is stock. I think with about…

I've had two roofs replaced on 2 of my smarts. At first the dealer was surprised to hear of something but it is now beginning to be a common problem so they are a bit more used to it.

Tire Wear & Roof Checking

Is anyone else having these problems?Tires - I recently had to replace my front tires at 20,000 miles due to cupping and excess wear on the inside. I had a four wheel alignnment performed ($99.95!?) which showed the front end only slightly out on one side, not nearly enough to have caused the wear. Could this be a design or specification problem?Roof - The plastic roof panel has developed a "checking" problem all over. These are little cracks throughout the panel that weren't there for the…See More

Tires & Wheels

I'm going to replace the tires and wheels on my smart. I'd like to put 15X6.0 wheels and 195/50-16 tires all around. Does anyone know if these will fit front and rear without a problem? Thanks

We have just gone through our first problem with our Smart key sets. While understandable given the parameters surrounding these things, it still was a two hour hassle. Aware of the problems of key loss of modern cars (my lovely wife once lost two…

inside the tail gate??? I would be more inclined to fill it with acoustic batting... Polyfill or similar.. as it is a hollow space that can act like a drum. the Dyna will add more substance but the reverberation you want to lower is easier done with Poly. and for much LE$$. some parts could benefit from felt, if you open the rear door compartment you can see the scratches the actual door is leaving on the "bin"part... those are part of the rattles you hear at high revs...

Two of our Jax smart members have aftermarket exhausts and both had me lay Dynamat extreme under the trunk floor. I covered the entire engine lid and then the remaining areas around it. with what was left of the 4 square foot sheet. They both called me on their cell phones on their way home and thanked me with much excitement and... well I heard every word!!! before that when they called me from their smarts it was like they were at the daytona raceway pits. (LOUD). Now I wont say that the Dyna will quell every noise but it will do a significant job. worth the money....buy it on ebay and do it yourself DON'T PAY to do it.. thats what is expensive... not the material.

Dave I have used Dynamat quite a bit, what is your issue... or better stated what is your wifes issue??? the reason I ask is that Dynamat will do wonders in some respects but its wont turn a smart into a Rolls Royce...
