Red Passion coupe. Got mine by getting on the cancellation list, and the person who was supposed to get the one I was originally supposed to get got tired of waiting and bought another car.
Not to make you mad or anything, but I only waited two months to get my car.
I was supposed to be getting a blue one next week that I had waited on for a month and a half (a cancellation) when my neighbor and contractor said that one of the people he did work for was supposed to be getting a red one, but was waffling over the decision since he already has an RV and a golf cart to go with it. I called the dealer and asked for my name to be put into the hat for it as I wanted a red one instead. It caught him by surprise that I would know about one becoming available before him, but he called me when he got the word the very next day, and I said I would take it so I got it a week earlier than I would have the blue one.
It did come with a few extras I don't really think I will need, such as the heated seats (the cold seats in the morning in the winter actually help wake me up) and the windshield wipers that turn themselves on when it rains (I think I'm 'smart enough' - pun intended - to know when it is raining.) I do wonder about that though. What happens when it's a clear day and a bird poops on the rain sensor? Do the wipers go into high gear or something?
Well, in the two days I've had it, I've decided it's a fantastic little car.
There is, however, a downside to owning one. Everywhere I go, when I come back to the car there is always someone looking inside it and fingerprints all over it from the gawkers that have to touch. I wonder what would happen if I put a cooler in the back labeled 'Body parts for research - keep in a cool place'?
Oh, well. Just my sick sense of humor.
Enjoy your car when you get it. It's a lot of fun.

We got our car in mid February and have been enjoying the heck out of it, ever since. It was the 20th car sold by the Cary smart center and those are some of the best sales persons we have ever dealt with. My wife & I are thinking about how we will order our next one in a couple of years from now, I would like to wait for a diesel model, but as recent press release have stated, diesels aren't planed to be released here. We'll see, things have a way of changing when it comes to smarts...
hi chuck,
don't rule out diesels (smart ruled out america for 9 years) we'll get diesels, we'll just have to wait longer! we just have to wait for our politicians to get over their "crainial-rectal" inversion disorder. be patient, plop down another $99... have some fun! i'm now single, i think i'll put another $99 for one myself, no law against owning TWO!!!!
Hello, Am owner of Smart # 7 from Smartcenter Cary. Great people, am very pleased with car. has been photographed daily. great conversation piece... love it
I noticed that someone posted that the price of the car plus tax (3%) and tags was the total they paid. I just got my notice that my car would be here within the next 90 days. Emailed Joe and the Cary Smartcenter. He replied that he would know the total price once it hit Jacksonville, FL. Can you tell me if you had the same experience that I mentioned?
I love my smart car. I have had it for 2 years. I am from Canada so I have the diesel version, I get about 72 miles to the gallon doing 65 miles an hour. I am moving to the Outer Banks for the summer on Sunday so maybe we could have a meet out there, it's probably a bit too far for most of you but it's just a thought.
I received my 451 about mid March 08 in Winston Salem, N.C. It gets a steady 40 mpg in town and 42 on highway. My insurance was $285/ yr. At first I thought it was a little sluggish, but once broken in the compression really tightened up and was no trouble going 75-85 on highway even in the mountains
Herb, good comments and questions. You point about re-assuring prospective customers is well taken, thank you!
It is not well known here in the United States, but in the EU,file theft is a huge issue for tuners. This is why the files are all locked…
Say, WHAT? No cdi? Damn! It's what I wanted all along since test-driving a CDI in Frankfurt 10 years ago! Looks like VW is going to get my future business (@#$%@#$).Unfortunately, I can't stand their proprietary B.S., their insane pricing for mainte…
Interesting.... but....
one must already own an Aston Martin in order to buy a Cygnet.

Not a car for the masses.
Thanks again.

However, you are way too short on contact info and re-assurance to your prospective customers that they will be able to re…
I hate that! I have that done to me almost every day! Makes my smart look slower than it actually is. Why do people not understand that you have to at least match the speed of the traffic you are trying to merge in to in order to do it safely and ef…
Interesting thread; started in July and still going strong. Let's go over to smartusa.com and configure one of those diesel fortwos - oops, not available. Weren't available in July and won't be available in the USA, period. Dave Schembri has confirm…
my metro took 19 seconds to hit 60 and was scarey as hell when merging, especially when an A-hole with a 6 or 8 goes slow until the last second and punches it, then you're stuck at 30mph while everyone else is doing 60!
