for those of you that have an 08 and have had the re-flash what in your opinion are the differences. do you like it, hate it, what would you ask for in the 3.0 re-flash if there ever is one....
My '09 has the current software, will get my '08 flashed next month at the 20,000 mi service. VERY little difference, certainly not in general upshift quality. A LITTLE less hunting in the 1-2-1 up and down shift at low speeds.
My wife hates the new software because she accidentaly goes to manual shifting by bumping the paddles...long fingernails, I guess.
If you ever drove an Aston Martin, BMW, or Ferrari with the 'automated manual' you would immediately say: "why can't smart shorted the time between gears?" With the above mentioned cars the shift lag time is about 1/10 that of the smart. Thats what I'd like from 'flash 3.0' if there ever is one.
Kinda funny seeing the responses to the 'upgrade'...I have one with and one without (2-smart household) and am convinced that most of those who think there is a big diff do so because they want to believe there is. If they could go back and forth between the two like I can they would definately say: "what's the big deal?"
I agree with you.
My car had the re-flash. The obvious changes were to the creep function and to the use of the paddles to change from auto to manual and vice versa. As far as any other changes to the shifting is concerned, whatever people are experiencing is mainly due to the placebo effect. They expect a change and that's what they think they are experiencing.
Since you have two cars, one with and one without the upgrade, you can easily determine if there were any significant changes to the shifting. and as you say "what's the big deal?".
i have a 2008 451 new model in uk.the gear change is 2nd gear 20 mph 3rd gear 30 mph 4th gear 40 its far to long revs and uses fuel i hope with the reflash its changed all the gears by 40 mph.i dont have creap function so i hope its added in the new software sick of the car rolling back when the hillstart assist has disengaged.the shifters basic with no p r n d
i'll be getting my 10K mile service in a month or so, my pure doesn't shift manually for the first few miles near 0F, and at that temp and below freezing, the auto is baulky when cold for the first mile, when i get the 10K service, i'll ask for the tranny re-flash (funny, my last job was re-flashing LG cell phones)
Gary those cars you mention (Aston Martin, BMW, or Ferrari) are just a tad more expensive and I think use a dual clutch to shift faster.... Dual clutches are on my wish list for hardware upgrade. as software goes I'm happy with the 2.0 so far
Dual clutch is a completely different technology.
BMW's (called SMG for Sequential Manual Gearbox) is the very same type of technology. It is all based on Ferrari's "F-1" technology.
I *just* had my 20k service done. How would I know what version of any software I have on the vehicle? I noticed after the 10k service the fuel gauge didn't do the final 1.0 gallon countdown the same but that's the only change I've noticed so far.

Scott and Dough, the re-flash is a software upgrade for your smarts transmission. it is only for 08 models as the 09s have it from the factory. How do you know if you have it? its really simple. get in the car drive around your neighborhood and when the shifter is in D and "D" is showing on your dash, flick the - paddle (left one)... if you are now showing a gear number instead of the "D"... your cars tranny is 2.0..... if you still see the "D" suffer not, you should get a letter in the mail or some sort of communication from smart USA asking you to contact the dealer to get an appointment to have the transmission flashed (software updated).

the technical term is actually..... perform campaign c0209002 upgrade trans / engine software
install software for seq (ASG) and engine control unit
they will also replace the vehicle Vin number sticker and owners manual. Some will also get their shifter lubricated..... and the battery replaced. these two depend on a couple of factors..
good, i'll ask for the whole enchilada when i get my 10K service next month, a new battery would be great. i've already had 2 new shifters and a brake switch installed...
i just prefer a scan gauge permanently mounted (well sorta, it's on a suction cup mount to windshield now, might dash mount it in the spring) but it's always on and connected. i have a basic cell phone which i only carry with me half the time, so it…
