If hitch is in back of the filter, it will certainly protect it while backing up, but not while moving forward.

So a bit bigger, and I would like to add that I have installed a Hitch on my SMART, and the hitch does a great job of protecting the oil filter, motor, and other bits. So, if the bigger filter concerns you, put a hitch on.

I would also like to know the status of that copper washer on the drain plug. I have made my choice on brand of oil, viscosity, and filter from this discussion but have not read where and why on the copper washer. ??
