So "touch start" works after you first turn key to ON and wait a few seconds. The Owners manual under "Starting the Engine" is confusing. Should I turn to ON first only when I start the car in the morning or every time even if I only park it to…

turn key to ON and let computer come up to par, a few seconds, you will hear all kind of clicks and buzz.
no more noises = OK
now you are ready for touch start, just bump the key and away you go.
turn key to "on"
press brake
run shifter through all gears including manual shifter mode and back to park, take your time, a few seconds in each gear.
see if that works.
You do not have a problem... You turn the key until the engine just starts to crank and let go of the key... The engine will continue to crank until it starts... You do not have to continue to hold the key to the start position once the engine start…
Bought brand new 2010 Smart fortwo Passion last week. Sales person raved to me about the "touch start" function during test drive - she said just turn key to starter position 2 and car starts automatically.. It is also in the owners manual on page…
I checked with dealer and I do have the new transmission program. Hope it never happens again. THANKS VERY MUCH.
