When I step on gas peddle lightly to accelerate, the car stops and then leaps forward

I bought my brand new Passion 6 days ago.. Aside from it switching from automatic to manual all by itself 7 times, I have another problem. When I accelerate by pressing on the gas pedal lightly, the car stopped and then it took a BIG LEAP FORWARD -- it lunged forward. This definitely didn't happen during the test drive or I would not have gotten this car. Here's exactly what happened: I was driving in a residential area. I stoped at intersection with red light. When light turned green, I drove straight down the street. After I passed the intersection, I pushed down on gas pedal lightly to speed it up a little and the car stopped and then it LEAPED FORWARD -- A "BIG'" LEAP. Is this normal? If someone have this problem, please give me some advice. HELP PLEASE.

I have pushed down on the gas AT about the same time as the trans was about to shift and had the smart "lurch forward" BUT the car did not STOP. If you can make your smart repeat your findings...then go in for service.

Jerry, THANKS ZILLIONS for your advice. I really appreciate it. If car stops and then lurch forward again, I'll definitely take it into the Service Dept. You know how that goes though -- if they cannot duplicate the problem, they'll tell you nothing is wrong.
Haven't seen this happen exactly this way, but you may want to ask your dealer if your car has the new transmission program... I have two 451s and both have been updated. Smoother shifts, better shift points, and faster paddle response. It should be easy for them to check the sofware revision and update if necessary. They want to help- don't be shy about asking! Particularly when you're under warranty!
I checked with dealer and I do have the new transmission program. Hope it never happens again. THANKS VERY MUCH.

So "touch start" works after you first turn key to ON and wait a few seconds. The Owners manual under "Starting the Engine" is confusing. Should I turn to ON first only when I start the car in the morning or every time even if I only park it to…

turn key to ON and let computer come up to par, a few seconds, you will hear all kind of clicks and buzz. no more noises = OK now you are ready for touch start, just bump the key and away you go.

turn key to "on" press brake run shifter through all gears including manual shifter mode and back to park, take your time, a few seconds in each gear. see if that works.

You do not have a problem... You turn the key until the engine just starts to crank and let go of the key... The engine will continue to crank until it starts... You do not have to continue to hold the key to the start position once the engine start…
