I did not want to put holes in the carpet of my new Smart. I just left them in the glove box and they never more or roll or anything. Just lay there. Seems to me to be the way to go.

the OE mats have a plastic self tapping screw that bores into the carpet and holds on. these come with the carpet floor mats. As far as velcro , the hard side of the velcro sticks to the floor of our smarts.. on my carpets, the passengers side stays…

My dealer installed the carpet minutes before I drove the car home. He used a screw driver to punch two holes in the carpet and then drilled the little plastic pieces in. It was pretty easy.
