I love my smart but.........

I love my car but recently, when the cold weather started, my driver side door will not latch properly if the car is out in the cold for a couple of hours....I know that replacing the latch will fix the problem but that is not an option right now... cold weather means less work for me...thus funds for this option are not available, i went to my dealer (unfortunatly not a smart dealer, used car shmuck dealer) they refused to help....anyone got any ideas its getting dangerous to drive the car…
