Problem with "Reverse" on 2010 Passion

Hopefully you are still under warranty? I have never heard of this symptom. Usually, the complaint is that when you put the car in reverse you get the three bars of death display and reverse cannot be engaged until you shut off the car and re-boot the transmission. I would make an appointment with your dealer and get this issue resolved.

Hi Robert, thanks very much for replying. Yes it's under warranty but if they cannot duplicate the problem, they will say they can't fix it -- you know how that goes. I never looked at the display when problem occurs. It always happened when I go from park to reverse. Maybe instead of going forward it just didn't move so it could be in the neutral gear. Since I read your reply, I've been checking the display to see if it's in R before I step on the gas. If I see it in N, I will take it down to the dealer right away and hope they can duplicate the problem. Thanks AGAIN MUCHO.

Daisy: There is a software fix for this particular concern. It is called a 2.3 update. This was an issue on earlier model year smarts. Your's may already have the fix, however, I would still ask your dealer about it or contact smart USA directly and tell them about your concern.
