The reason why I/ We love our smart cars is purely due to the fun, versaitility and safety. Meaning, there are a lot of cars out there that are fun, offer fun via different ways to accessorize, customize or modify but the smart for it's size, offers so much more without any reservations. We have drivers that have it towed and drivers that tow with it. We have drivers that change their panel colors based on their mood. We have drivers that theme their cars!
We have drivers that love the gas mileage and have drivers that immediately put a turbo in it and aren't concerned about the MPG. At the end of the day, it does what is MOST important; it protects the driver and the passenger. It caters to every driver on the road. We still do costco runs and 6'5 men drive them every day. Drivers who have Ferraris, Lambos, Bentleys and a smart? They drive the smart every day, it's their favorite. It makes people smile. It's a happy magnet. It's an understatement for it's size and those in the know, will be the most passionate and educated drivers with regards to their smart. It's not understood by the masses and the drivers love sharing what makes them happy.
The smart car driver is the most secure driver on the road. Meaning, they are confident. They are informed and they are aware. Not easily persuaded unless they know the facts. You will never meet a smart car driver who is unhappy, well, you maaaay but at the end of the day the biggest chunk of the drivers are the happiest people on Earth :) It's so true! You will never find a car (at least at the present) so fun to drive...
We hope you become part of the MADNESS, in a good way :)
"The smart car driver is the most secure driver on the road. Meaning, they are confident."
That's probably a result of the inverse ratio between the size of their car and the size of their manhood.
What attracted me to Smart was that it epitomised the 'form follows function' design principle.
Previously I was driving a sports car that could do 0-100kmh in under 5 sec and a top speed of over 240kmh. It was a great car to drive to its limits but owning it was not without heartache. Insurance, running and maintenance costs were correspondingly high - premium fuel only and $250 per tyre. Yet 99.9% of the driving I did with it was in commuter traffic with one occupant.
In comparison, the Smart is the perfect design for my purposes. It provides the same safety and levels of comfort as more expensive cars but it is less than half the running costs. Sure it has less than half the power and speed of the sports car but it is more than adequate for the driving I do. Inside it is more spacious per person than my wife's SUV.
Driving the Smart is a more enjoyable experience because its design is a perfect fit for my requirements.
It makes people smile! And it makes sense. Most of the time, just look around, there is only one or two people in about every car you see. It's eco friendly, comfortable, fun to drive and safe. I'm a form follows function kind of guy, and like that about the smart. I also like it's uniqueness. Can hardly tell any cars apart anymore. But this little guy is in a class by itself. A very cool little car.
I love everything about it. Except perhaps that the seats really don't recline more than a few inches and prevented any snoozing on the long road trip.

J Jay, do some searches as we have covered a simple mod to recline the seats quite far back.
As for the LIKES.. the smart is one of the few truly unique cars out there in the field of blasé beige. Like Jack stated, these cars make people smile both while in them as well as an outside observer. Smarts are a great blend of Form and function with little wasted. I've always asked myself how fast does a hemi powered goliath vehicle go on the highway past the cops.... 99.99% of the time, just as fast as my little 3 cylinder smart.. at the speed limit. So, why invest in something that will not be useful on the street! some say for bragging rights. Please! brag about being married 50 years, that your kids did well in school, that you are happy in this life.. not that your car can do 155MPH IF and only IF you could take it to a race track. My smart can do well over 250 MPH with NO modifications! HOW? Calculate terminal velocity and either jump it off a cliff or push it out of an airplane. Neither would be fun for me.. but it COULD!
People need to stop listening to the ads on TV, they, incase you have not figured out are trying to tell you that YOUR stuff is not as good as what they could sell you. Their stuff is BIGGER and BETTER, all you have to do is get rid of your stuff and buy theirs to be finally happy... well, til next year when their NEW and improved stuff is bigger and better than even their one year old stuff.
I liked my smart when I bought it and guess what, after two and a half years, I still do!
I love my car (just not when will fall in a pothole). It is just a fun ride.
I bet 95% of the people that travel up and down I-93 in Boston are by themselves. So, really, why do they need a vehicle larger than a 2-seater with a great hatch-back.
I am just waiting for the next gas crunch. That's when the naysayers seriously review their gas bills.
I love my "Smart Shark." I have more fun driving this car. I have had more people take photos of this than you can imagine. I have three roof sign I put on as the mood suits me. One says "TAXI." One says "PRESS." My newest one says "IMMIGRATION." This is the most fun you can have with your pants on. My wife wants me to sell it. I told her not to hold her breath.
my computer is acting stupid it wont let me add any pictures on any web site like 451s.com, Socal Smarties it took me about 2 hours to send the pictures to you at smart madness
Your car looks VERY nice, you've done great work. But one thing stands out - the silver headlamps. Need to paint them black! Instructions at Evilution, of course. My son and I did mine, and they look like they came that way.
Oh, and by the way, GREAT comedic writing - I laughed multiple times during the reading of this review. Not only was I interested in it, but I had great fun reading it. Thanks for that too!
Rick, thanks SO much for this great and detailed review! I hope to get one of these on order within the next few days myself. Jeez, it's half the price of the other one.
But I have one quick question - I saw people talk about the other one (Scangau…
