I'm looking into buying a Smart and would love to be able to carry a canoe or kayak on my travels up here in the Yukon. Is this possible? Can you use a rack if you have the panorama roof?
You might be able to order and get a roof rack that might fit from J.C. Whitney or some other parts place, but be careful as only the "pure" has a roof that can handle a rack. The rack might void your warranty so check with your dealer or smart? You might consider a small trailer .

Thanks, Neal. I'll look into this. I really want a Smart car but I also need to be able to carry my kayak with me - or there's little point in having a super fuel efficient car that I can't take on my long trips. I hadn't thought about the warranty angle, so thanks for pointing that out.
The smart pure is probably the only one that can add in a roof rack, as the passion roof being that clear glass might have problems if you drill hols into it, but the pure roof is just a sheet of plastic.
Also remember that the smart is already a very tall car, adding too much to it might cause some handling problems, also the towing capacity is 0 and the luggage capacity is very low, I think max is 450 pounds so if you have 2 normal sized adults you won't be able to get much more on the smart.
Thanks, Smartster. The height and weight considerations do pose some problems. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has thought about this and come up with a solution.
I bought the little side cargo net for the side plastic panel but I am struggling with the install!!
Does anyone have a good clear pic of theirs installed, or are there any tips for installing this?
Thanks in Advance!!
Ho HO ho.... Nice! Very nice. What I would love is a dusting of snow in Central Florida. I'm certain the chances are ever so slim. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thanks for sharing the spirit.!
Dealer just told me that there is a leak in the vacuum for the fuel tank on my 2008 451 Smart ForTwo as well as a physical leak.
The service rep said other cars had this issue. Cost me $1300. Shouldn't this be a recall? These guys need to get their…
Well, yes and no. I'd like to address several misconceptions in the posting from ceejay 2005.
1.- Yes, the plastic laminate holds much of the windshield fragments together, but is actually a mortal danger to unsecured occupants in the car when thei…
