451 smart fortwo

when trying to move my car it is displayin 0 at all times and will only go forwards if kept pushin gear stick up. no reverse at all is displayed or neither will it go into reverse. my local garage cannot see anything wrong, but like most have not had much experience with smart cars. any surgestions before taking it to a dealer would b much appriciated

Try pressing the brake pedal when changing from N or R. Normally, "O" is an indicator that you tried to shift without applying the brakes fist.

yer have tried that and it just stays in 0 all the time, i really stummped :(

turn key to "on"

press brake

run shifter through all gears including manual shifter mode and back to park, take your time, a few seconds in each gear.

see if that works.

weird issue. take your question to smartcarofAmerica . SCOA. Lots of knowledge there.

turn key to ON and let computer come up to par, a few seconds, you will hear all kind of clicks and buzz. no more noises = OK now you are ready for touch start, just bump the key and away you go.

You do not have a problem... You turn the key until the engine just starts to crank and let go of the key... The engine will continue to crank until it starts... You do not have to continue to hold the key to the start position once the engine start…
