Anyone have experience with their SmartCar's engine coming on and off at a whim. I've had mine into the dealership twice and nobody is able to repair it. Now Im waiting for a reply from the "Chief Honcho of Service in the Sky" and should have a reply by Wednesday. I know abut the gas tank lid being tight. I know of one other person in town (Tampa) that is having difficulty. I shelled out a good amount of money for a caged in go-cart (which I really do enjoy) but I find the service lacking ... and one out there that has had a resolution about the "engine light coming on." Sure would like to know about it. 813.988.2442; [email protected]

this is the type of information i want to know, whom is accountable to know for you? I want to own a Smart car, but also want to make sure that the guys driving the cars do not understand more about the cars that the folks whom should seem to be able to address these problems too.
will keep an eye for my own curiousity to see how your problems are resolved.
i hope you have very prompt positive results too.
good luck

Your right on the money with this one. I have been learning about the smart car for almost a year, mostly on this forum, and I hate it when I go to the dealer and they seem to know less about the car then I do. I don't feel good about this. And I don't want to be the one that has to tell service how to fix my care because they never heard of the problem, don't know where to look, and don't know what they need to do to fix it. This shifter thing on Mr B's car comes to mind. The sevice better get better and fast, or else. I hope just the light is going on and off and not the engine. Good Luck I hope they solve this for you

At this point I've been through several people. Ran into the SmartCar "head hancho" last week. He happened to me at the SmartCar dealership in Tampa went I stopped by. Justin, the sales manager, is excellent and spends all the time you need with a problem. Hopefully they'll get this engine light fixed. Most MB dealerships should have a trained SmartCar mechanic. It is the luck of the draw if they are well trained. The service network could be an issue. But, I haven't had any other difficulty so far. I learned alot of about these cars "after" buying mine. I still would get this one because they're so much fun and handle so well. Actually I ordered an '09 and I'll probably sell this one. Like the new red better than the old. Hopefully it won't cost to much to change out. Thanks for the feedback folks!
