Smartster and Mr. Bad Example are both right. When the outside temperature is low enough (which I believe is set at 6 degrees C (43F)), the snowflake appears. There is a bit more behind this. I keep reading my manual almost everyday still. This car is way to "smart" sometimes for the manual. I keep discovering another feature or symbol still. Two months in - can't wait to see how air conditioning will change stuff (maybe an inside snowflake for frost on the inside of the windshield.<br /> :-)

i think it's warning of the possibility of "black ice" conditions. i'll find out soon enough, i sold my old benz today and now park my smart at my home (yippie!)

That makes sense. It was plus 12oC yesterday, and then we dropped back down to about -7oC. and most of that foot of snow we got on wed or thursday melted.... Much better than the highs of -25oc last week.<br /> Thanks

The snowflake icon is to let you know of freezing temperature and possible ice on the road. The flashing snowflake is like a little warning and then it stays solid to just keep you posted that its damn cold outside.<br /> <br /> This actually for me comes in a little handy, its physiological for me, I know its cold I know its icy, but that flashing item on the gauges really makes me think about it and adjust my driving a little, another smart addition to an already smart car.
